Frequently asked questions

What is it like cooking in the van?

It's not different then at home just a little less work surface and no oven. I enjoy cooking and as I rarely use the oven at home it's much the same

Do you have to go to a campsite to hook up for electricity?

No we are lucky we don't have to. We have 2 solar panels =240 watts and a Tridon DC to DC 12v that goes from the alternator to the leisure batteries which we have 2. So if there's no sun we just have to turn on the engine and in about 20 minutes they are both charged up.

Being in a confined space, do you get on each other's nerves?

We are very lucky we are best friends also and do everything together but if we find it's getting a little annoying one us will go for a walk or sometimes both of us.

Do you have tv?

No we don't we usually play games but if we do fancy  a bit of tv we use the laptop.

How do you shower?

Not at this moment. We top and tail or use a leisure centre.

What kind of toilet do you have?

Yes we have a compost toilet which is easy to get rid of waste and try to use toilets in garages and shops.

Are you eco friendly?

Very much so. It's only the diesel really. We use eco cleaning products, compost toilet keep food packaging to the minimum and use biodegradable wasre bags. We leave no trace and if we do find litter where we park up we pick it up and any rubbish we get rid of in bins in garages etc.

Do you enjoy van life?

Oh very much so. The freedom, the sites to discover and the people you meet in van life and how much money you save which is great because we are on a low budget. If we where able to do it years ago.

Will you end up doing full-time van life?

We like to think so, at this moment in time though it's not possible but keep an eye out on YouTube channel and our blog as that could change and to be truthful we'd like it ASAP.

What kinda worries or doubts did you have before you started living in a van? What would you tell someone who's feeling the same?

We wondered if the equipment we had for power was enought so we didn't to go on a campsite. The equipment we installed is more then enough

That we could be happy in a confined space and we are happy.

We wondered how we could was clothes but there are plenty of laundry facilities in garages so it hasn't been a problem

I didn't want a gas fridge, so we installed a house fridge freezer, the solar panels and alternator along with the inverter and leisure batteries run it perfectly

So if your going to try van life always remember you can change things as you go and just enjoy the freedom 😊

What are some common myths about van life that you'd like to bust? What's the reality?

It's not always beautiful weather and fantastic views. You can be on the road looking for somewhere to park up. You will get people who think you leave rubbish everywhere so make sure you live by the code " leave no trace ".

Always make sure you have a beak down fund

We have a satellite phone just incase there's no WiFi coverage and we have an emergency. You can get a very reasonable priced one on Amazon

Plenty of games to play.for those rainy days

What's the one thing you wish you knew before you hit the road in your van? Any tips you'd give to newbies?

We will share the one thing we wish we knew and tips for those new to the lifestyle.

Wish I knew that we didn't need as much things as I thought. Less is more.

That people can be judgemental but we are lucky we know who we are and we like us, other's opinions are their opinions😊
